During the opening ceremony of HISWA, the Amsterdam Boatshow on 2 March 2010, special attention was focused on the signing of an agreement between the RNYU and the Dutch Disabled Sports Association. In 2009 both bodies already joined forces to stimulate integration of disabled sailors at regular sailing events. By signing the agreement the cooperation was made official.
The Disabled Sports Association is proud to now be an official member of the The Royal Netherlands Yachting Union and the RNYU is proud to have the disabled sailors among their members. A win-win situation and a great start of the sailing season 2010 for all sailors.

IFDS Worlds welcomes Dutch volunteers
On Wednesday 17 February the Dutch organising committee of ‘IFDS Worlds 2010’ invited volunteers of the Royal Netherlands Yacht Club (KNZ&RV) to inform them about their potential contribution to the World Championship, to be held in Medemblik, July 2010. Not withstanding snow and sleet about 40 to 50 volunteers met in Muiden to obtain information about those parts in the sailing event that need extra support.
After introductory remarks of Chairman Jacques Kellermann Slotemaker about the ins and outs of the event, Race Officer Michiel Poulie ‘power pointed’ the different types of sailing boats with facilities for disabled sailing and the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) adapted to disabled sailing. Also the chairmen of the subcommittees, ladies Ingrid the Vlaming (assistance ashore) and Sandra Dijksman (communication, public relations) made an appeal to those present.
Although a lot of them volunteered in 2002, there were also newcomers who enthusiastically completed forms, indicating which days and for what sub-division they would be available. With a drink afterwards, the meeting soon turned into an inspiring and cheerful gathering: a promising outlook on IFDS 2010!
